2010 Season
by posted 02/20/2010

Message to the YAC Football Families:

As the YAC Football season is upon us, I wanted to provide some information about the upcoming season. Below, I have listed the Head Coaches at each grade level for the 2010 season. Head Coaches are selected by Joe DiCanio and myself, and we allow the Head Coaches to select their own assistant coaches. Joe and I will review the list of assistant coach nominees and will ratify the Head Coaches selections.  Included below is the East Division Set-up (New York teams - East) and the Game dates for the entire season. The start of the season will be one week earlier than last year which makes attendance at the August practices even more important. A player must complete 10 hours of Non Contact conditioning and 10 hours of full pad practices before they will be allow to participate in a league sanctioned scrimmage or game. The August 2nd thru August 5th YAC Football Camp satisfies the non contact conditioning requirement and a player will need to participate in approximately 1 1/2 weeks of full pad practices to play in the scrimmage or first game - NO EXCEPTIONS as this is a safety issue. It should be noted that unless your team wins the CVL Championship, the last game date is the weekend of October 30th/31st.

One other note, I will be changing the equipment pick-up dates to June to accommodate those players who want to participate in the Block & Tackle and Will to Win Football Camps.

Will to Win Football Camp:

Yorktown High School Head Football Coach Mike Rescigno and his staff will be running a football camp for grades 5th thru 8th (Based on Fall 2010 class grade). The camp will start on Monday, July 19th thru Thursday July 22nd from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on the Yorktown H.S. Turf. Details will be posted on the YAC Football Website and e-mailed to the YAC Football registrants in the next few weeks.

  • First Game - Saturday/Sunday - August 28th/29th
** Please note that the Football Camp is designed to provide each player with the league mandated 10 hours of practice without pads.  Players who do not satisfy this requirement will not be able to practice in full equipment until the 10 hours has been satisfied.  Players are also required to participate in 2 consecutive weeks of full equipment practices before they can participate in a league sanctioned scrimmage or game.  As both these requirements are mandated for safety purposes, they will be rigorously enforced by the YAC Football program.

** Football is a huge commitment and cannot be done on a part time basis.  The month of August is probably the most critical portion of the practice schedule as players are worked into football shape (safety concerns) and are also introduced to the offensive and defensive schemes. Players who participate in the August practice sessions (work hard in practice and listen to their coaches) are historically better prepared to start the season.

We look forward to an enjoyable Football Season
